Letter to Meacher!
Please see below my letter to Meacher - i'll blog any respone I get
If anyone else fancies emailing him meacherm@parliament.uk
Dear Michael,
I was incredibly disappointed to hear on the news this morning that you had declared that you will stand for Leader of the Labour party. This at a time when you should be getting behind John McDonnell's campaign.
Despite your earlier assurances to me it does seem very much that this is in fact a spoiler campaign - you have launched at a time where John McDonnell's campaign has gathered incredible momentum, hundreds of activists attending meetings re the J4L campaign, he's broken through the media blackout and ASLEF have become the first affiliated union to declare support for John - this on top of the support he has from other unions and affiliated union broad left groups.
It seems that it has been designed to make the most negative impact on the best candidate and opportunity the left has had for years.
This following on from Alan Simpsons declaration last week that there was no hope for the left in the labour party and that among other things is why he was standing down as MP at the next election.
Looks to me that this is a concerted campaign by yourself and Alan Simpson to ruin the left campaign.
I cannot understand how 2 MP's on the left can want to sabotage John's campaign in this way, please explain it to me?
Finally I would ask you to reconsider and abandon this foolish escapade!
Warm Regards
Marsha-Jane

Hi MarshaJ,
And another thing..... Meacher owns 9 blinking properties. A real man of the people. Not!!
I've not laughed so much in ages. Do you actually believe this stuff??
Michael Meacher has no chance of winning the labour leadership, then again neither does John Mcdonnell so get into the real world people and realise that labour party members like me want the party to stay in power not fight the battles of the 80's all over again.
I'm not convinced by the J4L camp decrying Meacher's candidature at weakening the left.
Surely what is important is that the person best for the job stands and wins, rather than supporting the first person to get their name down as a potential candidate
Kerron I have also found the stuff in the evening standard amusing http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23386491-details/Meacher's%20challenge%20to%20Brown%20is%20marred%20by%20farce/article.do
Anonymous - John McDonnell has an excellent chance of 1 getting on the ballot paper and 2 giving GB a real contest!
Most labour party members do not want the status quo of blair/brown privitisation - if we are to survive as a party we need to grow if we carry on the way we are we'll keep shedding members until were non existent. We need a change in direction John offers us that.
Snedds this isn't a case of john declared first - john is by far the better candidate (he's sane for one!) He has all the support of the unions and Clp's and growing support in the plp - thw whole meacher thing is a farce no one wants him to run for leader not even the MP who chaired his press release to announce Ian Gibson - who is openly backing John!
Meacher is a farce - John is by far the better person for the job
MarshaJane first of all John McDonnell has a problem even getting the 44 Mp's required to get on the ballot paper and that is after being an official candidate for 7 months.
Secondly if he does get his name on the paper it may be by supporters of GB wanting a contest to show how little support in the 3 wings of the party the extreme left actually has.
I am a CLP member and have links in a number of sections of the party and the only thing that party members in the real world are talking about is how we can beat the tories not how we need to turn back to the failed policies of the extreme left who spend more time fighting each other rather than the real enemy the tories.
Anon - i disagree John has been centering his campaign on rejuvenating the labour party and is massively succedding - for the last 7 months he's been touring the country and has wide support. He will get the MP's signatures needed.
Meacher has spent the last 7 months purely working the PLP and still has no where near the support even in the PLP we have.
In the real world party memebrs that havent abandoned the party are talking about the state of our party and are looking for a way forward.
This lastest stunt on council housing and not having a vote on trident is what most party members are worried about - because we wont beat the tories if we keep alientating our members like this.
Anon.
I am also a CLP activist that would like to see Labour remain in power. What I cant see is Labour winning by supporting the tired policies that Blair and Brown support.
OK, we have been successful over the last 10 years , but at what cost? Our support is dwindling due to the Iraq war, privatisation in the Health service and the constant squeezing of council budgets by central government. Many CLP activists are waking up to this fact and therefore would love to see a debate as to which way forward.
John McDonnell getting onto the ballot would ensure this discussion takes place. Ignore him and you risk losing the next General Election!!
Ian,TGWU BL.
If M.P's are democrats they will ensure John McDonnell is on the ballot paper so that us mere mortals (party memebrs and Political fund payers!) get our dsay in who runs OUR party. Its tiem for a debate about the direction of travel within Labour and John offers a real alternative agenda across a wide variety of tings. Many have claimed the country ahs moved on the reality is ordinary people consistently support many of the things John calls for such a withdrawal from Iraq no Trident, more Council housing and a majotr increase in the minimum wage amonst many others. I am just old enough to rememebr 1983 and I honestly believe the reason we lost were not those often cited by the longest suicide note in history revisionists within New Labour. We cna win on a socialist platform
