TUC Conference

I'm looking forward to the Trade Union Congress this year, last year was my first time at the TUC and enjoyed it although as I posted then the media frenzy around Blairs visit was a bit much.

I thought that inviting Blair was a pit of a p take from the TUC really as did a number of comrades who walked out (The whole RMT delegation for a start!)

This year however I don't disagree with the TUC for inviting our new PM Gordon Brown to speak - although I hold no illusions into him being a friend of the Trade Unionist (as Dave Prentis noted recently his government of all the talents doesn't include any Trade Unionists )

Many of the TU General Secretaries are putting faith in GB to deliver on some TU demands not least social housing - and rightly or wrongly all of the big 4 (oops thats 3 now!) gave him their supporting Nomination so he should attend to hear what we have to say.

BUT!
(and hat tip to Janine over @ stroppy for this ) it doesn't stop there eager to outdo last years decision to invite Blair,
The TUC in their infinite wisdom have invited none other than the Director-General of the CBI to be a guest speaker at Congress this year.

Some comrades on the General Council objected but General Secretary Brendan Barber retorted that it was too late, since the invite had already been sent!

As Janine so wonderfully put it not just Turkeys voting for Christmas but arguing that "You've got to be on the plate to be in the debate".

Charlie Brooker also said something that is suitable here.

'wank**g for coins, that's all they're doing wank**g for coins'

Don't quite know what he'd say, 'pay cuts and longer hours all round?' hmm...

I think they should have realised that it wasn't a great idea and should grow some balls - big balls!
