Attacks on youth services

With the coming attacks in local government its clear the poorest and most vulnerable will be the worst hit - every day now we hear something else that seems to be targeted at the worst off in society.

Today courtesy of young people now http://www.cypnow.co.uk/bulletins/Daily-Bulletin/news/1022004/?DCMP=EMC-DailyBulletin

I hear that westminster will be setting up an almo for their children's services department - this a few weeks after they announced they were merging education services with Hammersmith and Fulham.

We have seen how successful ALMO's have been in housing with 2 recent examples Lambeth and Havering having millions of pounds of black holes and needing to be dragged back into working shape by the local authority - these are not isolated cases rather it is the norm for ALMOs to be shoddily run and financially incompetent - yes this is what we want for our youth services.

But not to worry as they will receive mentoring help from organisations including the John Lewis Partnership, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Tribal - so that's ok the welfare of our kids I'm sure will be their no1 priority.

Youth services all over are under attack - Lambeth have seen off an attack on the one o clock clubs there - in Havering they are proposing moving our youth service to a targeted youth service
We need a targeted coordinated response from unison nationally and regionally defending not only our members jobs, terms and conditions but also the public services for the sake of our kids.

I look forward to seeing that targeted coordinated response soon!
