Dear Colleagues

National Executive Council – North West Male Seat

I am writing in order to seek your Branch nomination for the above Seat on the National Executive Council, that I have held since the inception of UNISON.

UNISON members have never faced such threats as they do now from the ConDem government, whose determination to force through ruthless cuts in public expenditure is putting badly needed services and hundreds of thousands of UNISON members' jobs at risk. I believe that the current policy of fighting cuts on a Branch by Branch basis is wholly inadequate, and that a national strategy is required, initially on a Service Group basis.

Members facing cuts and redundancy from Labour councils will want to know if we are using our Political Fund to best effect by giving it to people and parties that attack our members.

It is clear that UNISON needs a strong, fighting leadership to defend our members and vital public services. Although often in a minority, my record is one of speaking out for ordinary members, the rights of Branches and for the strongest possible opposition to any attack, from whatever government, on UNISON members.

I hope that you will nominate me in this election, so that I can continue to fight on your behalf, (documentation for this election can be downloaded from UNISON's website).

Yours sincerely

Roger Bannister
